Who Are The Benson Sisters?

Shawna and Julie are a sister writing team who not only share the same birthday (three years apart), but also a love of genre TV/Film and Comics. That love inspired their move from the cornfields of Illinois to sunny Los Angeles to pursue careers in screenwriting. After working on numerous features and series as showrunner assistants, writers’ assistants, script coordinators, and as writers on the Emmy award-winning web series EMMA APPROVED, the Bensons landed their first writing staff job on CW’s THE 100.

After three seasons penning the critically-acclaimed series, they were brought on as Co-Producers on Netflix’s WU ASSASSINS. Next up, they boldly travelled to Produce STAR TREK: PRODIGY, an animated series for Nickelodeon, available on Blu-ray! Alongside their TV writing jobs, they worked with DC Comics on the popular 2016 REBIRTH launch writing BATGIRL AND THE BIRDS OF PREY from 2016-2018, followed by a 7-issue run on GREEN ARROW.

Shawna spent thirteen years as an IT tech and project manager for Disney, loves travelling, and is a practicing oenophile who excels at sniffing and swirling. Before writing, Julie went to Columbia College for Film/TV and started her Hollywood career working for Dustin Hoffman. After assisting countless Producers and Showrunners she now uses her massive curiosity to learn about about all things including theme park design, mixology, and forgotten women in history.
